Alexa, play "Family Snapshot" by Peter Gabriel

By totalloss - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff - United States - Pompano Beach

Today, I had to sit between my parents in the car as they argued with one another for a whole hour over whether or not a thumb is a finger. FML

You should have just given both of them the finger, and thumbed a ride home. Thumbs are fingers unless you are Megan Fox, and then they are toes.

At least it was a really dumb fight instead of a seriously devastating or awkward one!

Oh god. This sounds like something my mom and grandma would argue about

If it was a finger it would be called one.

True, but I've always been taught that we have five fingers on each hand. I couldn't wait for someone to start this conversation!:)

I always thought it was 4 fingers and 1 thumb to make 5 flanges?? Lol.

but...those aren't lyrics...your username is a lie...first the cake and now this? when will the lies stop?

See! No matter how ****** up your life might seem, it could be worse!

Give them a thumbs down for a useless argument. or a thumb up their a--- never mind.

Last I checked the thumb is technically not a finger do to being only two segments where a finger is three. Sorry you got stuck between such a lame argument though :-/

Where did you check that? A finger is defined as an organ designed for manipulation and feeling. I have never seen a definition that involved segments.. Plus, if your thumb is not a finger then where is that fifth bastard hiding on my hand?

Did you just call fingers organs..?

Lift up your hand (either one) and shift your thumb around, fold it in to your palm as if you were going to show the number "four" with your hand. Then splay them all out again as if waving or going to show the number "five." Watch how the shape of your hand changes as you do this: The "third segment" is at the base of your hand, near the wrist (at the heel of your hand), which allows your thumb to bend inward and lie flat to your palm.
