douche
ADA pay day, baby!
what a ******* dick!
Um, I think it is his problem. In the UK at least, if someone's disabilities or problems are not catered to, to the best of the companies abilities (without affecting other employees too much ect) then that pretty much is discrimination.
anyone who said you deserved it should go to hell
I'm not saying the boss was right, but have you ever tried to plan a large event to accommodate everyone? (I have, though, admittedly, I didn't yell at anyone.) Let's say he has a staff of 30, 15 of whom have problems with the restaurant. "I'm vegetarian." "I have food allergies." "I want to bring my girlfriend and you said no guests." "Do I have to follow the restaurant's dress code?" "Can I bring my infant?" "Are the drinks free?" "Why did you have to pick a restaurant in that part of town?" "What do you mean I have to pay for parking?!" Maybe the OP had the unlucky chance of being commenter #15 and the boss was just done. Besides, it's the restaurant discriminating against folks in wheelchairs, not the boss. Why should someone even think to ask "Do you have wheelchair access?" to a NEW restaurant? It's pretty much standard now. (Also, I doubt the restaurant doesn't have a freight elevator if it is on the roof. The restaurant is probably refusing to accommodate, not unable to accommodate.)
Are you serious, #169? Like "Are the drinks free?" and "Can I bring my infant"? are in any way comparable to "Can I physically get inside the restaurant?". Certainly accommodations for things like vegetarianism or food allergies can't always be made, likely because the boss just isn't aware of them, but if this man has ever *met* this employ of his before, he's PROBABLY going to have noticed that the guy's always in a wheelchair. Of course mistakes can sometimes be made and (as you said) he might not have thought to ask the restaurant about wheelchair accessibility beforehand, but if you didn't notice, the boss give any indication that he was in any way sorry about it. He sounds like a complete ass, if you ask me.
The point they were making was the boss had probably had a load of crap from the other employees before OP and just snapped. NOT that being in a wheelchair is the same thing. Organising a large outing can be stressful and maybe that was the reason the boss was insensitive to OP. So you clearly misunderstood the point being made..
