Bad babysitter

Today, I was babysitting a 9-year-old kid, when she got thirsty and asked for a drink. All I could find was some kind of Mexican fruit drink, but I didn't realize until too late that it was actually hard liquor. I had to scrub her mouth out with toothpaste and put her to bed to cover it all up. FML

The next morning will be interesting...

That could actually be dangerous. You need to pay attention or find another line of work.

Hopefully you're the only one that's canned.

And this is why I refuse to hire baby sitters or use daycare, even considering homeschooling because of ignoramuses like this. Way to damage a child snd not tell the parents. I hope they had a hidden nanny cam.

I worked as a nanny for two years and let me assure you most every professional child-caregiver I've ever known would have NEVER given a child an unknown beverage. Most day care centers require the you have a minimum of an associates degree to be a teachers aide and a bachelors to be a teacher. Also all teachers are required to have a bachelors in their field or education to teach anything real. You can only teach how much you yourself know. Every homeschool kid I've ever known (and I've known a great deal of them) are either weird brilliant social misfits, or they're morons who can't read at a third grade level at 16. Unless you are educated enough to prepare your children to be a value in society, leave education to the professionals.

OP doesn't sound like a professional nanny to me, more like a teenager from the neighborhood that gets paid a few bucks to babysit from time to time, like so many teenagers do at some point. I certainly hope that a trained professional would NOT make such a mistake. If you're concerned about your children being in good hands, be careful about the people you choose. And please don't use hidden nannycams, secretly filming someone because you don't trust them is not a nice thing to do. I've worked as a nanny, and I would've immediately left a job if I would have found out the parents were secretly filming me!

I knew a woman who had your exact attitude when she was raising her son. He now completely hates her, but is totally dependent on her. While plenty of time with Mom is great for healthy development, never leaving Mom's side can be highly detrimental.

#228 My friend is like that and he is 26. There is a point in your child's life where you need to let them go!

Monopoly guy: Go to Jail! Go directly to jail! Do not pass go, do not collect $200! Seriously! If you don't know what it is, don't distribute it to anyone, especially small children! The fact you are trying to cover it up is just shameful! Own up to your mistakes, and stay away from child care before you kill somebody's kid. Also, trying to cover it up is what makes you a criminal more than anything. On another note, depending on where it was placed, the parents could be to blame too. I don't keep anything alcoholic where my kids can even see it. They don't know any better, and I don't want them getting into it. None the less, ignorance is no excuse on either party's side. Keep it put up!

really man you gave a kid liquor and didnt tell the parents..... it was bad but what if something happened bc of the liquor

Now you know to avoid the top shelf...or make sure it has nutrition facts printed on the bottle

No you did not have to cover it up! Your mistake was stupidity, but your covering it up was criminal.

The fact that anyone thumbed this down is mind blowing to me.

Exactly. What if the child was allergic to alcohol and she got really sick? My husband is allergic to it and can't drink it without having his throat swell shut.
