Bad babysitter

Today, I was babysitting a 9-year-old kid, when she got thirsty and asked for a drink. All I could find was some kind of Mexican fruit drink, but I didn't realize until too late that it was actually hard liquor. I had to scrub her mouth out with toothpaste and put her to bed to cover it all up. FML

The next morning will be interesting...

That could actually be dangerous. You need to pay attention or find another line of work.

they don't have running water in that house?

Next time you should ask the child what they usually drink and have then show you where that is.

My question is are you a teenager or an adult? That makes a huge difference to me in this case. If you're an adult you should be no where around children as a baby sitter. I'm actually thinking you're a teenager. In that case, less fault is on you and more goes to the parents to begin with. They should not have left alcohol where you could access it. Let alone the child. Also, you not being familiar with it and trying to cover it up says you're a teenager and you made a mistake. Tell the parents. They should have left you with everything needed to do your job. Food/Drink for the child should have been in place. Yes, water is an option too, but I can't understand why they didn't have juice. If you're a teen, you shouldn't have been exposed to it either. I'd honestly rather have a babysitter who makes an honest mistake like this than some who would have drunk the alcohol themselves while watching the child.

Why does everyone think that there should be juice??? Juice is high in sugar most of the time, and water is healthier for you as your body, you know, NEEDS it. Drinking milk or water is preferable in pretty much every situation health wise.

If you don't know what anything is, the last thing you should do is ingest it, much less give it to a kid! I hope the girl is okay... especially if she happened to be so out of it she was actually asleep/unconscious throughout that thorough mouth scrubbing. I also hope that the parents find out, learn to label their damn drinks, and learn not to hire dimwits as babysitters.

And there wasn't a sink anywhere in sight? You have GOT to be kidding. Tap water would have done!

Why couldn't the kid get their own drink if they were 9 years old?

Yeah sure she made a mistake but why had the parents not told her where the kids actual drinks were
