wow...
This sort of thing happened the other day when two of the most respected people in aviation in the US were arrested at gunpoint because another plane that used to have their registration number was stolen years before. The police decided to approach the incident with a full 'felony stop' - loaded guns pointed at innocent people's faces because the databases weren't kept up to date. I'm all for police being able to defend themselves and take reasonable precautions, but people get hurt when guns and adrenalin mix.
YES
Ahaha stupid police officers
Were you sitting in the driver's seat, at least?
The police have a computer in their car. They have a radio at their fingertips and can find out information instantaneously. I'm so tired of this kind of crap. They take 20 minutes to write a speeding ticket because they need to be sure they have all your warrant information. So they slam a guy against his own car because they didn't read the last line of the stolen car report....car found and returned....I wouldn't bother with a lawyer. Just go to the local TV stations. I'd demand a public apology.
Obviously, I have no idea of the details of this situation, but I wonder if there was a mistake by someone at a department, and nothing about the car being found was noted. I say this because when my car got stolen, the police department that recovered it (a few cities away) called me to let me know, and then a few days later I got a call from my local police department asking me more questions about the title or something. There was apparently no communication to them that the car had been recovered. Seems somewhat unlikely, since it sounds like they found out within a few minutes, and it sounds like they used a bit of excessive force (unless OP was resisting), but it seems pretty likely to me that the officers on the scene didn't have the full details, whether their own department did or not.
Hey, you guys want to hear an oxymoron... police intelligence.
What's amusing about it? People trust the police as long as this stuff doesn't happen to them. I can tell you from experience that sometimes police either make mistakes or abuse their power. I'm no police hater. I know they have a job to do, but it only takes a couple of pumped up knuckle heads to screw things up for the good cops that follow the rules and treat people with respect. I've seen it from both sides and it's not pretty.

I'm fairly certain you actually can sue for this, darling. Is it me, or are the police getting more and more brutal these days?
to everyone say that "cops wouldn't do that," BS. Cops can do whatever they want, and then lie about what happened. Their cop buddies will stand behind them. I knew a few people this happened to. And there's no point in suing because it's your word against theirs.
