By mylovelifeisanepicfail - This FML is from back in 2015 but it's good stuff - United Kingdom - London

Today, I discovered that the man I have been talking to on a dating site is actually my ex-boyfriend. He created a fake profile and made me fall for someone that doesn't exist. We got on better anonymously than we ever did in 3 years together. FML

what exactly did he think he'd achieve from this? It's pretty obvious that you'd find out who it actually was at some point

He seems like a douchebag. Did he have any intentions of getting back together or was this just for 'fun'?

Maybe he wanted to see if he acted differently if they would get along and since they did he might have been hopin for second chance with his new attitude and demeanor

So your ex-boyfriend thought the best use of his time was to mess with you and make you fall for a man that he made up... He is a very classy gentleman...

As someone who works nights and weekends, that's actually impossible for me to do. There are some genuinely nice people out there, you just need to be careful like you would in a bar or club for example. Thanks to everyone for all the lovely support, it's appreciated ?

Does he like piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain?

May be he's trying to propose that you belong together.

He's not necessarily trying to be an ass. It's plausible that he might want to get back together with OP, but she dumped him or they weren't on good terms or something, so he wanted to make her fall in love all over again and then reveal his identity. Or he's just an ass.

Yeah, he's a jerk for what he did, but Y(kinda)DI for "falling for" someone you've never seen, much less met...stop being so needy & do what you have to, to live your life to the fullest..even if it means having to be single for awhile because unless you're on e-harmony or any REAL & reputable dating site...it's not too likely your going to find "mr right" amongst a bunch of fakes.

YDI for falling for somebody online who you have not met.

Um, it's actually possible to meet the love of your life online.

Am I the only one to think that the boyfriend was simply trying to win op back?

All the people thinking online dating is bad... It's actually BETTER because 1. It's impossible to move too fast, unless you throw in sexting. It's actually a great way to force people into getting to know each other BEFORE they have sex. 2. So many more people to meet than you could ever hope to meet IRL. 3. I've had RL relationships that went worse than online ones, so I do have personal proof that you can have more successful relationships online.
