Condolences

Today, I went to the funeral of my friend's brother. It was the first funeral I'd gone to, and I was really nervous. When the service finished, everyone went to pay their respects to the family. After I paid mine, they said, "Thank you for coming." I instictively replied, "My pleasure." FML

That is a correct response it shows that you care enough to go

I believe the proper term may be "my condolences for your loss"

At least you didn't go to the wrong funeral. It took me 20 minutes to realise I didn't know 'Brian'..... I was meant to be at Berts. Nervous laughter is not a good thing.

My girlfriend actually said "Congratulations" instead of "Condolences" once. First time I was pretending to not know who she was...

It all depends on how you look at it I guess. I mean I find it perfectly fine to say that, it shows you care. But I guess it depends on the person maybe?
