I actually threw away my acceptance letters to Stanford, because I did not want to move far from home. Guess who got blamed for not exploring new venues, you guessed it ME!!!!!
I hate commenting on posts this old, but I can't help myself. You people are disgusting for calling OP a moron for wanting to save her mom a shitton of money and/or debt! Did you even consider that she might have gotten financial aid offers already that just weren't enough? Or that maybe mommy is working two jobs to keep bread on the table as it is? She's not "throwing away" her future just because she's not going to an over-priced school. I turned down a few nice schools myself because I didn't want to put my parents through that much financial strain right after my brother pissed away his time at a prestigious school. It's called thinking like an adult-- putting your family before yourself and accepting that you just don't have the money for everything you want. Anyway, if a potential employer looks down his nose at me for going to a public school, then good riddance. I wouldn't want to work for someone who puts that much importance on something so meaningless, especially considering my potential career path depends so much on a portfolio. Rant over. Move along, people.
You should have talked to your mum before throwing away the acceptance letters :(
Why don't people talk to each other nowadays?
