Cough up

Today, I found my dog, who had been missing for over a month, at the local pound. Clearly it was my dog, she responded to her name and cried when she saw me. However, the woman there told me I could not simply take her, I had to follow through with all policies. I paid $250 to adopt my own dog. FML

FYL indeed....but you should have put those chips they put in dogs to track them down, then all they had to do is scan it and your info would pop out.....

That happened to us before with my cat. The guy who lived behind us kept calling the pound to come and take her, so we kept having to go and get her and pay for her.

Surely your own dog is worth more than $250 to you

Documentation on a dog.. That's a new one.

Aww she cried when she saw you? That's probably the most adorable thing I've ever read :) But sorry OP, at least you got your dog back.

Dogs are so worth it though! :) ????????

why is this an FML?! who cares how much you paid you got your dog back!

If I could have my dog back again, I would gladly pay that much for her.

Well all that matters is that you found her

Having worked at a shelter for years.... A microchip costs around $25, tags are much less, wither would have gotten your dog back to you. A dog is held in quarantine for around a week while they wait for an owner to look for the dog, if you knew the dog was missing, you should have been thorough and checked the local shelter. Most shelters will accept vet records as proof of ownership, if you had those, you possibly could have gotten your dog back. Last but not least, it was YOUR dog and YOUR responsibility. it is not THEIR job to care for your dog for free until you decide to come looking for it. If you had boarded it at a boarding facility (such as the one I now work at) you would have instead paid $645.00. So stop your whining, buy a collar and dog tags, and be happy you have a member of your family home again.
