Crossed purposes

Today, I told my boyfriend, "We need to talk." He said, "I know". So we met after school, and he said he was OK with me breaking up with him, that he wasn't that into me either. He said all that before I could tell him that my parents wanted to meet him. FML

I'm pretty sure "we need to talk" is a universally recognised code for "I'm about to break up with you".

lol who says "we need to talk" before telling your bf that you want him to meet their parents? seriously.

"We need to talk" always means "We're breaking up".

he was just nervous and covering up the fact that he was really upset I betcha!! if i were you i would tell him what you were really gonna say!

I hope you clarified it. It's possible he said all that because the four words out of your mouth upset him but he wanted to give you the impression that he was fine.

This is an important thing to learn: "We need to talk" is never good.

thats why you dont start out by saying, "we need to talk"

yeah, we need to talk is usually followed by either "we need to break up," or "I'm pregnat." And that second one usually leads to that first one.

we need to talk usually does not lead to a good conversation, silly

Man, he probably had no intention of breaking up with you until you said "we need to talk." It probably made him think you were about to break up with him, and he did it first to not feel rejected. Don't EVER use that line.

I agree with #49, the fact that he said it so fast means he probably didn't want to break up with you but assumed you were about to break up with him and then said that so he wouldn't feel like a loser when you dumped him. If you're both in high school, multiply the probability of this theory being true by 5.

aww that sucks!!! he was probably a d-bag anyways !!
