Final Destination

Today, I was stopped behind a pickup truck filled with junk. I told my friend that the person should have secured the junk better, since it looked like it would fall off any minute. My friend assured me it wouldn't. Right after she said that, a large piece of plywood fell off and hit my windshield. FML

I always go (safely) around people with trailers or truck beds full of stuff and I never get close enough to be hit by anything that flies out of the back. My grandpa works in construction and always secures his tools and plywood, etc securely, but there are so many people who clearly don't.

in all honesty if you were afraid of something falling off and smashing your window you should have at least stopped a little further away from the truck and drive a little ways behind them so this kind of thing is less likely to happen. yes, the guy should have taken more precautions and strapped the stuff down better but you still should have stopped further back. If Im behind someone with a lot of stuff in the bed I always leave a few extra feet in front of me than I usually do just in case.

I'm sorry op!! Next time don't listen to your buddy listen to your gut. Your gut is right most of the time

I never get close to trucks/cars carrying stuff that is not covered/closed. Lack of experience/caution but still YDI, sorry OP.

Hey, all you need to do is contact the company who owns the truck (assuming that was a company and not a personal vehicle). By law they have to repair any damage done my falling debris. If its a personal vehicle then you need their plate and insurance info

You deserve it for seeing a threat and making no move to avoid it.

You can't say that and then not move from behind them. If you see danger, proactively get out of there. YDI

Wow, I can't believe all the people saying OP deserves this and that he/she should have just moved. They were stopped behind a truck, which is usually indicative of being STUCK behind it. Therefore, they couldn't have avoided this situation. It's the truck driver's fault for not securing his load better.

You need to give truck with illegal and unsecured loads more room! -- And if they just drove off without exchanging insurance information you should call the ******* cops.

Shouldn't have pulled up so close to the truck. You should leave a car's length of room in front of you when stopped.
