Take some medication and relax
I have the same issues to be fair man, next time just smile and gesture towards the seat with an open palm, works like a charm and it will slowly help build confidence =) Hope you start to feel more confident in public mate =)
Why not just use your body language? You could nod, shake your head no, or even just point to the seat with an open palm to signal whether or not it was okay. Just because she wanted to sit there doesn't mean you would have had to socialize either. Either way, if you're that socially awkward, you need to invest in some head phones to wear at all times or something.
That's why you never lie, besides all of these social anxiety issue seem a bit over the top. Sure some people are a bit odd or have trouble making contact but just giving everyone meds seems wrong. Besides forming a good social circle helps a great deal when building up confidence.
I have had it happen to me too! at that point I sign with them randomly til they go away!
If you really don't want to talk to folks, bring a bunch of jehova's witness folders and place them on your lap, or stop showering, smell tends to put people off.
