People should always act professional and not mumble inconsiderate things about their patients/clients. I'm sorry this happened to you. I have fair skin too so I know how you feel.
I don't think Americans and Westerners in general should be so disappointed about pale skin. People in the rest of the world especially Asia usually prefer paler skin. There are even reports of discrimination in China against more brown skinned people.
asian women usually envy people with white skin. i dont think you'd ever see it in your local market, but here in the philippines you can find whitening lotions, whitening soaps, whitening bath scrub salt stuff, and salons that offer skin bleaching treatments. my wife is filipina and uses those same whitening skin products but i still think she looks prettier with tanned skin. just a westerner's opinion on that i guess, but yeah your nurse was just a douchebag to mutter anything under her breath like that.
