Impressive

Today, I met my boyfriend's parents for the first time. In his front room was a giant parrot. Hoping to impress them, I went over to the bird and began talking to it proving I wasn't scared. Out of nowhere, it's beak clenched onto my nose making it gush blood on the carpet. I was hospitalized. FML

okay, 1. you try to impress your boyfriends parents by.. talking.. to a .. bird? wow... 2. Did the bird rip open the cage, or did you open the door and shove you head in? your life is pretty f***ed

I just have to say, it makes me laugh really hard that the advert on the side of this page is for some fancy parrot cage.

To everyone saying birds can't be trained: that is BS. You probably know a lot of ignorant bird owners who buy birds to look pretty rather than to treat like any other pet. I have a small parrot who absolutely loves being held and very rarely squawks. She is wonderful because I give her attention but don't reward any bad behavior (intentionally or unintentionally). If a stranger were to reach out to my bird, she would "beak" them, which is to feel with her beak without applying pressure, but certainly not bite. She can sit on my shoulder and snuggle under my chin and that is like paradise for her. The bird may have been untrained (like if it was purchased as a status symbol, common with very large parrots), in the process of being retrained, or if OP thrust herself at the bird in a manner that would frighten it. Maybe it was just tired. I was once bit by the most devoted dog I ever knew because I stuck my hand in her kennel when she was resting. Sometimes these things just happen and it doesn't mean the animal is bad at all.

f the birds life for having your finger stuck in it's face.

#67 She was only talking to it. Nowhere did she mention sticking her finger in the bird's face!

Speaking to a parrot is supposed to be impressive? I guess my standards are too high.

You need to learn a bit more about animal behavior don't you?...:) I guess you learnt your lesson ...just be yourself by the way, no need to impress

YDI... don’t harass strange animals. Let the owner introduce you.
