Today, my sister bought my five year-old son a giant ant farm for his birthday. We set it in the living room on a table. I went into the kitchen for a minute, and when I walked back in to the living room, my son was holding the empty case over his head, smiling. FML

I cannot even begin to think of how that might be a good present for a five year old. Your sister fails -__-

I have an antfarm story: When I was 8 I made one of those rainbow sand projects at a carnival and I kept it in my room. My brother, 6, had an ant farm and thought my rainbow sand was for his farm and he dumped it in there.

Your sister's a idiot for buying a five year old child an ant farm, and you're a bigger idiot for leaving him alone with it.

ant farms dont come with ants in the box...you have to send off for them, so what happened? he poured sand all over himself?

See, this is why you don't let kids have pets of any type until they're at least 7 or 8, probably older.

I'm with #12. Someone should have explained to him as soon as it was out of the box what it was and how to "play" with it. Better yet, get a toy that's more age-appropriate. May I suggest a tea set? (Jeez. What are ya gona get him next year...lawn darts?)

Ydi for allowing your 5 year old to have an ant farm..

Were you at all worried about his safety?

Why would she get a 5 year old an ant farm? That's usually for 8-9 year olds.
