same thing happened to me except he had already lost his job when I filled out my fafsa. they still claimed he made too much money during the year to qualify
Same thing happened to me when I was in school.
26, I think.
Before I graduated I made sure I applied to a few universities that would hold or defer your enrollment for a year. I took a year off, worked full time and filed my taxes that year as an independent. This allowed me to fill out the FAFSA as an independent student with only my information. Since I was working a crap $9/hr job i qualified for WAY better loans than I could of with my parents information. My dad makes great money but I have quite a few siblings and my parents have obligations, besides I didn't really want them on the hook for my college. You get better loans/grants as an independent student too. If you cant go to school because of this Id suggest working for awhile and reapplying alone. Even if you show proof that your dad has lost his job he probably made too much during the fiscal year for you to qualify untilnext year anyways.
Student aid and FAFSA are a joke sometimes.
financial aids suck, they are always greedy little bastards.
So now you reapply since your family income has changed.

You can appeal by showing proof that your dad lost his job. Happened to me.
Yeah write them a letter explaining things.
