Your mom is a hypocrite then
Out of sight, out of mind.
I leave the radio and/or tv on for my dogs. Otherwise I find doggy bed spread across the house.
I'm gonna play a little bit of devils Advocate here. It's not entirely ridiculous to leave the TV on for dogs when your family is not at home. In fact, it helps dogs cope with separation anxiety hearing people's voices. We used to do it with my dog when he was a puppy. However, your mom's explanation behind the action, and her yelling at you about the lights is completely ridiculous
lol seriously, I would be screamed at by my mother for leaving my bedroom light on through dinner. I don't mind cuz it taught me to be mindful of my surroundings and also conserve things like electricity and water.
I always leave the tv on. I have a cat the literally watches it. Hahah
My parents leave the tv on for our dogs as well. They are calmer when you leave the house and they can hear the voices of other people.
Same! My mom goes crazy if we have too many lights on but she'll leave the tv on all weekend to make ppl thing we're home

I'm a bit curious as to what it is the dogs watch, and what shows they would recommend.
But it's recommended that a tv is left on for dogs. It tends to calm them by giving them the impression they aren't alone. This is a pretty common technique for dog owners.
