FYL, OP. The idiots saying they worked 10 jobs whilst doing 50 degrees at the same time are just lazy idiots who didn't even get into college. In the off chance that even ONE of them goes anywhere, it's some shitty community college where they don't even have to do any work. I suspect you, OP, are a diligent student who wants more than B's, and are struggling to find a job as you've implied in your FML. People are stupid, keep looking, I hope you find a job and get your food stamps. To the guy who said only veterans and the elderly should get food stamps - what about the sick? What about students, who work and still can't afford to pay their bills? You should be happy that these kids want an education, because when you're on welfare after you retire they'll be supporting your lazy ass.
I'm tired of working my ass off for people to collect free money. My hard earned money! Get a job!
Everyone wants handouts. You'll never hear anyone that works hard say anything about how they need help. And all you people from other countries talking about war shit and bag on America. If it wasn't for America you'd be German. So thank us "America" for your freedom.
86 I'm tired of supporting people like you. 20 years old can't support yourself but yet your grownup enough to get ****** and have a baby you can't support. Your the problem. People like you. But you want to cry victim cause you are working soooo hard in school. Close ur legs do your homework
for someone who's child was born premature and spent 4 months in intensive care and didn't pay a single dime I also laugh at your comment
Not sure where the OP is from but I live in California and was recently denied food stamps for being a student as well and was also given the same spiel about having to work 20hrs in order to be eligible. However if I wasn't doing jack-shit with my life and didn't have a job I'd have $200 on my card today. It's so unbelievably unfair that those who sit on their asses all day and don't even try to better themselves are rewarded while those who are trying to attain a degree and contribute to society in some way are given a long sting of red tape to cut through. If we could find a job that was a least 20 hours a week I doubt very seriously we'd have applied in the first damn place. Now my only two options are A) drop out of college or B) get knocked up. How much sense does that make? I agree, your life suck!
I agree! I am a full time student who applied and I was denied also because I dont have a job where I can work 20 hours a week. I think its bull. If I had a kid I would be approved instantly. I have a friend who is married, with one child.......neither her nor her husband have jobs, and the state of Alabama gives her $500 a month?. Thank you government, thank you for allowing me to work full time since I was 16 and donate my time and tax money to help all these people out who dont do crap but have kids and live off welfare. Is it fair that I got denied the same day a big family of illegal aliens got approved? Pisses me off.....I went to Iraq and was medically discharged from the Army, you would think I might get some help after that, but who knows.....not saying I deserve special treatment, but they sure didnt go over there. And justknowing when times got really hard for me, like when I lost my job and couldnt find work, or get on unemployment, the govt said they couldnt help. If only I had went and had a kid
That's really pathetic Bexy and I feel your pain. I was reading yesterday that the govt doesn't want to give food assistance to students because, and I quote "You don't have to go to college. It's a choice you make, but you are not required to attend." How ridiculous is that? Sure you don't technically have to go to college but it's best you do if you'd rather not live off welfare for the rest of your natural life. I truly feel the students are being punished because many people feel like college is for those who want to thumb their noses at manual labor or feel like they're too good to "get their hands dirty." Is is true? Of course not, but I can guarantee you that many a coal miner/road crew employee would rather a desk job. Even if they didn't, even if the lot of them preferred to work in those fields, those jobs are dwindling to next to nothing or being overtaken by illegals. I say, if you're a woman, go out and get yourself knocked up and reap all the benefits the government is willing (and will do so happily) to give you and if you're a guy, go on ahead and find yourself a girl to impregnate and enjoy your benefits. It seems it's the government's wish anyway.
I just finished reading everyone's comments. Wow! For all of you that are against people on assistance, I completely understand where you are coming from. I used to be like that too. Until I lost my job. I worked 40 plus hours a week at Fedex making great money....then it all ended. I tried looking for a job, but I was over qualified, or didnt have the college education required. So I decided to go to college.....I was denied unemployment bc fedex always fights, I tried to get food stamps but was told I needed the 20 hr work week. After about 5 months I finally found something, but made a whole lot less than what I was used to. I worked 40 hours a week, and I was lucky enough to get my military school money. That money was supposed to be paid towards my loans, but it went towards my bills. As did the small checks I received from the new job. It wasnt enough though. Lost my job again the week of Christmas, it was a sales job and people werent buying. Got unemployment this time, but it took ab 2 months.
I have since finished school, but still no job. I have put out many resumes and applications, but no luck yet. I get that most of you disagree, but for some of us its not a forever situation. We need help while times are hard. I feel like this......I have worked hard all my life. I went to highschool and worked full time, after graduating I worked all day everyday until I joined the Army. After getting out I found a job as fast as I could doing retail until I got on with Fedex. I have contributed to society. Now its time for them to return the favor. So for all of you who are against it, keep an open mind. One day it could be you that needs help.

Hooray for health care! This is why I'm moving to Canada.
