Jesus saves

Today, I found out that shutting off the heat in the rental property my parents owned was a bad idea. The water froze and the pipes burst, causing the whole kitchen ceiling to fall down. The water ruined the wood floors and the appliances. I turned off the heat to save money. FML

it's perfectly fine to shut off the heat but you need to remember to shut off the water and drain the pipes. FYI for future reference, though I don't think they'll ever let you be responsible for it again.

No, I would have turned off the water where it comes into the house, drained it completely, then, and only then, turned the heat DOWN, never off. It's called winterizing a house.

It was an honest mistake. Nothing to really beat yourself up over. I'd just pay it and call it a lesson learned. However, honestly, the entire ceiling fell? That sounds a bit odd that it would do that. lol.

Same thing happened to me, except our garage ceiling fell. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I obviously must have read the story wrong. I took it as he was living in the rental. If that was the case, the dripping faucet would be the best bet, right?
