If I were sister, I'd care that she called the women nasty, but in this situation where the women is actually slapping her kids in public, I'd agree with the cashier!

It's your own fault for saying something rude without thinking. Though I admit there was no way you could have known, there's still the common concept of being careful with your words. If it'd been me, I'd have worded it more politely, for example, "That woman really should leave her kids at home if she can't get them to behave. She's lucky someone isn't calling child services on her for hitting her kids like that." In other words, be more careful nexttime, OP.
you deserve it but you also deserve a pat on the back. lol. I probably would have told her to wrangle her redneck sister before I called the cops.
