Maths is hard

Today, disappointed with my results on a mathematics test, I went over it and realized my teacher had added up the marks incorrectly, leaving me with 17% less than I earned. The person who's supposed to be teaching me math can't even perform basic arithmetic. FML

Did you talk with your teacher and get everything sorted out?

What do you think the probability of that was?

I disagree. Without math, we wouldn't be where we are as a society. Math is structure in what would otherwise be complete and utter chaos. Sure, you may think it isn't fun to learn, but hey, learning rarely is.

My calculus teacher would give us candy if we caught a mistake he made and my multivar teacher would give us a bonus point for catching his mistakes. But I had a French teacher once who would yell at us for doing the math, saying she takes off points differently for different mistakes and the frequency of mistakes. She would give two people different grades for the exact same mistake. We had an oral speaking partner test where my partner got 100 and I got a 70. So not fair...

My Spanish teacher also did this when someone pointed out her mistakes. Once, a girl in my class noticed the teacher made a Spanish grammar error, and called her out on it, but my teacher just argued with her for five minutes, and then gave her a detention.

Maybe your teacher was up all night grading papers and made a simple mistake! It isn't his fault that you suck at math! Sorry dude but just suck it up and be a liberal arts major in college!

Not doing as well as one hoped is not the same as sucking at math. For all you know that 17% was the difference between a B and an A. There's no need to be such an ass about it. Hell for all you know they were up all night studying and that caused them to make mistakes.

dang what happened to people reading his grade was not 17% it was off by 17%.

Teachers are human, too. Like all humans, they also make mistakes.

Besides, unless OP got 100% after the discussion with the teacher she really shouldn't be talking. I wonder how many bad grades that OP got in comparison to that teacher!

Do we go to the same school? Lol

Everyone makes mistakes. I always tell my students to check my math, and if I made a mistake in their favor, to consider it their lucky day. And of course if it is a mistake to their detriment, I will apologize and correct it. More often, though, they will simply not understand why something was marked wrong, and in the interest of education it's always good to clarify that.

At my school teachers have 4 classes a day with at least 20 kids in each that means their marking like 80 test or papers or something for each class. Ever thought they may have just miss marked it. Just talk to your teacher he/she is just another person they make mistakes too

teachers have hundreds of things to grade. so they go through them quickly. it is common for them to make a mistake, which is why you check over it yourself and ask them to fix anything wrong.

That happens to me all the time so I understand. Just remember that teachers make mistakes as well.
