Money money money!

Today, I got a promotion to management at work. My employer decided to give the 'non-management' employees a really nice raise. Which means the job I had before my promotion is now paying more than the job I have now. Did I just get demoted? FML

No, you didn't get demoted. You're still making more money than you were before.

I'd look for a new job if this story is even true. places where management is being paid less than their subordinates aren't places worth working at.

That really sucks. I don't know why, but the FML would've been better without the "Did I just get demoted?" part. FYL, though.

"did i just get demoted?" ahhh too funny!!

Ask for a raise you spineless wuss

The best thing then is to stay at your job for a while longer and then use your new managment experience to get a similar job that pays more. :-)

#35 is right, inquire about your bonuses and extra time off with pay. That alone might offset any wage increase by A LOT. Most non-manager positions in companies have no bonuses, so any health care insurance and other necessities of life come straigt out of their pockets. Check to see then come back and make a comment so we can laugh/cry at/with you. If all else fails, do what other people recommend. Gain some management experience, and spread your wings a little and try and fly further (new company). Don't be lazy, solve this problem!

YDI for sucking at doing your job enough that you got demoted.
