I feel really sorry for you! You were just trying to do the right thing, and it ended badly. Now, a whole lot of people are disparaging you for letting go of the dog, which cannot possibly have been a conscious decision on your part. :(

I respect the fact that you were trying to do something nice for someone, but if you're walking an animal near any sort of road, rule number one: never let go of the leash.
#68 you'd be amazed and frightened at how little it actually takes. IT doesn't take ripping along like a speed demon. He was right to render aid, and since I wasn't there, I'm not going to second guess him letting go of the dog. The kid was more important, no matter how much it sucks that he got hit.
