This sounds like a foreclosure, and someone wasn't happy about it. While house shopping last summer, my realtor told me all kinds of stories about what people will do when someone buys their house. She told me of one incident that they took everything that could move, toilets, cabinets, water heaters, and walked through with a big hammer destroying the walls. FYL. People just suck.
Maybe it's changed, but I remember getting told when I was younger that a house legally had to have an oven in it, and that the previous owner legally had to leave it in the house. Also, if he's taken any of the chattels that were listed as included with the house, he's also in breach.
Why didn't you go to an open house first?
I think it's standard to take the appliances but taking the toilet is a bit much.
you're supposed to view the house and if things are missing that are in the contract then you have recourse. I think you're full of it

You didn't look at it first?
I hope you have enough money to buy a shovel, because you might have to shit in a hole for a while
