Today, a police officer showed up to my house and informed me that my boyfriend was killed in an accident. Later, I found out it was a prank set up by a friend. He thought faking his death would be easier than confessing that he was leaving me for someone else. He didn’t want to see me get "upset". FML

Today, I opened some junk mail addressed to my fiancé and saw a credit letter about applying for a new mortgage. When I called to tell him his identity was stolen, he admitted he bought a house, and then broke up with me. I had no clue he was unhappy. FML.

why the hate? She didn't say he succeeded, only that he TRIED to fake his own death. It is not like she has believed this months over months. As for HOW he did it... how is she supposed to explain this within the character limit of an FML? My ex has done the very same thing. Faked his own death (he was in the army, living in Italy, where I was supposed to follow six months later), so it was easier for him. He faked his own death, and only because I snooped around in his email account one day (to delete it) did I realize he was living the good life with his new millionaire girlfriend. Sometimes life is just that: absolutely and utterly unbelievable

What a freak. At least you found out now and can get closure. If he went to such great lengths to conceal all of this from you, then he probably has a long history of lying to those he loves and you shouldn't feel guilty for not realizing sooner. HE'S the one who did all of this. Just move on with your life and know that most people aren't compulsive liars.

First, I read it as he had committed his own death or something like that. I read it the second time and saw that he faked it. I laughed. You deserve better than him anyway.
