One joke too far

Today, after spending 5 years working towards my dream job, getting it, and while in training telling a risqué joke, I got suspended the next day, lost the job, and I'm now in a shitty admin job. FML

You went too fast. You have to judge the vibe first. Don't go assuming you have the same sense of humor as everyone else until you get to know them because it can backfire, as you well know. Your joke may have been harmless, but it's your employers who then have to decide if you fit in with their business. In this case you didn't, so take the L and be happy that you managed to find work and a paycheck in a fluctuating economy.

At work it's always best to keep away from anything sexual, political, religious any of those topics are like minefields

It was maybe your dream job but it was a shitty company. So it may be for the better.

that sucks. but you gotta learn the vibe first. people are fragile these days. you probably wouldn't have enjoyed the job in the long run, working in such a crybaby toxic environment

You should have done a risqué/benefi-tay analysis before you opened your mouth.

Work in the restaurant industry if you want to make risky jokes. We make those type of jokes all the time
