Out of place

Today, I was asked out by a friend of mine. He's a doctor and works at a prestigious hospital, so thinking we would eat somewhere special, I got all dressed up. We ended up eating at his hospital's cafeteria, because he gets a small employee discount. FML

Well you might think he would take you somewhere special, but just because he didn't doesn't make him a bad person. There won't be fancy dining and wining all the time. Is he a resident on a smaller salary or fully licensed already? Maybe the man had to be on call later so he couldn't put all the juice into it he wanted to. You never know.

I'm sure he has a shitload of medical school student loans to pay off.

I highly doubt it was because he couldn't afford somewhere better. I am sure he receives the salary we all know he does. He's smart to not take you somewhere really nice on the first date. He knows you know he's a doctor and are probably expecting something fancy of him and he wants to see who you really are. He's a smart man in my opinion. If you turn out to be second date worthy you may see that fine dining. ;)

So, you only cared for his money and for him to take you out to fancy dates?

Yes, Docs are cheap. I worked for one once and he was CHEAP.

Just because he's a doctor doesn't mean that he has loads of money. Like many others have already stated, he probably has a lot of school loans to pay back. Someone else also stated that he could have been on-call and wouldn't have wanted to take you out somewhere nice only for it to be interrupted. He probably has a fancier date planned for a later time. If you like him, the place where the date takes place shouldn't matter.

Always ask what to wear before a date. Saying "Should I get dressed up?" would have made it easier.

He probably owes a lot of student loans. Don't judge.
