Pops

Today, my older boyfriend and I went shopping together. When we arrived at the till, the cashier looked at me and asked, "Is this your pop?" I replied "No, this is my boyfriend, but we get that a lot." She paused, pointed at the case of Coke in the cart and said again, "Is this your pop?" FML

You gotta own it, OP! Grab that case of coke, hold it close to you, and say, "Come on, honey, we're leaving!"

I'm a little confused as to why you made that mistake. You were shopping. You should have logically assumed she meant the sodas. Especially since calling one's dad "Pop" is an extremely outdated thing.

Am I the only one who noticed the cashier used "this" instead of "he"?

In context, it doesn't matter either way...

This is why Everyone just calling it Soda would make things less confusing.

It was in your cart. Who else would it belong to?

this is an East Coast West Coast thing I'll bet OP is from the East Coast and of course British Columbia is on the West Coast I ran into this a lot when I moved from Washington to Florida everybody on the East Coast calls soft drinks sodas nobody ever referred to as Pop

If you call soda pop, you don't belong in a developed country

Why would you assume a complete stranger wanted to learn who your family members are?

That's why it should be required by law to say soda
