RIP Buddy

By Anonymous - 22/04/2025 05:00 - United States

Today, I held my 14 year-old dog as he passed away. He made me a better person and I spent more time with him and loved him more than 99% of the population. I don't know how I'm going to do tomorrow when I dig his grave, and know he's not with me anymore. FML

He may have gone, but he left you with so many positive memories. Maybe one day you can think about welcoming a new dog. The horrible thing about pets is they have very short lives compared to us. Sending hugs your way.

this really is an FML. I feel your pain. I did the same with my 18 yr old dog I had since a puppy. much love to you.

And if you do get a new dog, "Shogun" is a great name for a male pit-bull.

I've had to put three senior dogs down in my lifetime. it's hard, I just have to tell myself that I gave them the best life they could have. I always said no more dogs. then about a month later I end up going down to the shelter and rescuing another one. I'm so sorry for your loss

Oof. My favorite dog died almost 10 years ago, and the impact he had makes me still tear up thinking about him. So sorry OP. It royally sucks to lose a pet, and even worse when there are those who don’t understand it’s like losing a very close family member. I really hope you have some pictures or videos you took, and it’s ok to cry over losing a pet. Just let yourself. Because it’s still grief over the loss of an amazing life. Everyone, if you haven’t seen, “my dog, the paradox” by comic creator “The Oatmeal” should go look it up. It explains the paradox behind animals and why it sucks to outlive them, and why it sucks so bad they have short lives. It’s helped me explain to my wife why she should treasure every moment with her cats, even if they act like buttholes. Because the alternative is worse than the moment. And last week we almost lost one of them. That made it finally hit her about what she could’ve missed and regretted it.
