Today, I told my girlfriend that my grandma died, expecting to be comforted. She got mad at me for "stealing her thunder" because her cat died two days ago. FML

People have every right to be sad when cats die. The problem here is OP's girlfriend is heartless about the grandmother's death and selfish.

I totally agree with you. Losing a grandmother is worse than a cat, but it doesn't mean everyone here has to attack the gf of OP. Maybe she had that cat for a long time, and was still sad and emotional over it. And then you may say stuipid things.

108: Agreed. 154: She does deserve to be attacked. She wasn't mad that he wasn't comforting her or respecting her grief, but because he "stole her thunder", ie took the spotlight away from her. I know grief can confuse your thoughts and emotions, but any stress just brings your true colors to the surface. If she wasn't a narcissistic attention *****, she could've at least listened to his initial outpouring of grief, as it's implied that he did for her. Then she could have later empathized with him through the loss of her cat and they could've comforted each other.
