call me an utter monster, but getting a pet will not solve your depression. it just hides it. obviously, your dog didn't go a good enough job of hiding it. find the cause of your depression, and resolve it. it is for your Greater Good. and the greater good for your pet, too.
buddy no
It doesn't fully cure depression, but it makes it at least a bit better. Improvement that doesn't fully cure is better than no improvement at all.
Also, you're assuming that there's some sort of lifestyle choice or event or thought process that causes the depression, but the truth is that sometimes it really is just the brain malfunctioning. Sometimes you can fix that with medication, but other times it can't truly be fixed, you can only do things to make it better. When you're depressed, it's often unpleasant for your friends to be around you, so you lose a certain degree of social support and companionship. A dog, however, will never get tired of your complaints and downer attitude or judge you for being emotional, so it gives you some guaranteed companionship, which can really mean a lot.
Getting a dog can help but it's not going to cure your depression. You need to go to therapist and maybe a psychiatrist to get some guidance. I also suffer from depression and I have a dog and while he's great he didn't cure anything, I had to go to a therapist, and a psychiatrist and get on medication. I still have lows but I'm not as bad off as I was a year ago. You have to take a lot of steps to get through depression, sadly getting a pet doesn't help as much as you thought it would.
Oh god that's horrible, but now you (OP) and your dog can go out depressed together and perhaps try and turn things around for both of you
Labs need attention and need to play. If you aren't spending enough time with him or don't play with him that may be why
A depressed labrador? That really sucks. Take the dog out, show it a good time, and try to liven it up some
way to pass it on
Aw. Just be sure to hug your baby doggy and show him/her your love.
This is not horrible, i mean misery loves company so you may feel more connevted with him after.
Try taking him for a walk and playing with him OP. That might cheer you both up! Dogs often sense how their owner feels and tend to act then same way.

I heard from a different FML that dogs usually mimic their owner's habits
I'm sorry OP. Maybe if you take him to a dog park he'll connect with some other dogs and cheer up - who knows, you might even connect with someone else yourself!
