Save the planet? Nah

Today, our art teacher told us we will have to build a giant Coca-Cola bottle made of smaller ones as our art project for next week, meant to represent the damage consumerism does to our environment. I think he doesn’t understand we will have to buy tons of Coke to get the bottles needed. FML

Try some recycling strategy, like setting up a collecting boot somewhere for people to dump their bottles.

Ends up making a ten-bottle statue

You could collect them from others, but if you really wanted to buy them, get a 24 pack or similar at costco, it isn't that expensive.

Your teacher is smart! Next project is to go out and club seals to make an art project that shows clubbing seals is wrong.

All the people involved in the project could ask all their friends, neighbors to help you. Also the local diners could lend a hand in collecting the bottles. Is there a recycling firm to which you could ask for help?

He's probably going to end the lesson with a 'gotcha' by asking how many bottles of coke you did buy. Seriously, go to your local recycling depot and ask! Or do a call on Facebook for bottle donations.

It would be much more meaningful if you went through the streets and trails in your neighbourhood, pick up any plastic trash you find (use gloves, of course!) and build a giant coke bottle out of that trash. You'll have cleaned up the neighborhood at the same time. Suggest it to your teacher.

That is an amazing idea. Have some awesome points.

Homeless people collect those doubt there are any left and he shouldn't be taking them.

Hey you're in my country :) and wow good luck with that.. Although if u go to a panadería or a small restaurant maybe they are willing to give you some of their recyclables!

take it to the recycling center for a quarter of the price back lol

YDI because you're not understanding the point. Get the bottles from friends, trashcans or recycling bins. Hell you could probably find a few dozen laying in gutters on the street. The fact that your mind went straight to "Now I have to buy Coke." just shows what your teacher is trying to prove.

And you missed all the points that people above you made about how coke bottles aren't easy to get a hold of, barring certain circumstances.
