My mom scares a lot of people, and has, actually, scared off a few boyfriends of both my sister and me. I'm now married, and despite my mother frightening my husband on occasion before we got married, he assured me that he wasn't going anywhere!

Eh.. My ex boyfriends mother used to terrify me. Sometimes your family and your significant other don't mesh well. I don't think his reason was an invalid one, you guys probably just weren't meant to be.
