Shut up!

Today, I lost power. That didn't stop my house alarm from running on battery, loudly informing me in a British accent, "AC power disconnected. BEEP. AC power disconnected. BEEP." It's been going on for 5 hours and the battery takes a special screwdriver to remove. One we don't have. FML

Go buy the right screwdriver? Wouldn't take anyone else 5 hours to figure that out

You need to turn lemons into lemonade. This sounds like a great backbone for a techno-dance mix video that'll go viral on Youtube. Then, you'll be able to afford one of those "special" screwdrivers. (Back in the day, we called it a screwdriver for retards, but I guess you have to be PC these days.)

Even if you need to stay in your house for some reason instead of trying to buy a screwdriver, you can make your own screwdriver head with a match and a Bic pen. Heat the top until it's melty, stick it in, let it cool.

Well I think the reason OP couldn't go to the store was because this was during hurricane Irene, therefore most places were closed

This is OP, and yes, it was during the hurricane. We couldn't leave,

Just take it off the wall and leave it outside or under a pillow somewhere until there's power again. If it won't come off, muffle it with duct tape and something muffling until then. Narf.

Oh yeah. I know your pain. Our stupid security system, which we don't even use, does the same damn thing. > > Early this year we had a cyclone and the power was out for four days. The stupid thing was beeping the whole time.

Pop your faceplate of your control and unhook the wires?

in that 5 hours, you could have gone to the store to get one. moron

There's a good chance that this occurred during hurricane Irene, which caused so much flooding in upstate NY to the point where towns were cut off from flooded roadways. It's safe to say that it would be hazardous to drive to the store during that time.
