Smooth Operator

Today, I was on a date with a guy I've been crushing on. In the middle of the dinner, he said he had to go get something from his car. When I asked what it was, he smiled and said it was a surprise. I waited for my surprise for half an hour. Then I decided to pay the bill and go home and cry. FML

Did u call him or at least tried to find him before u paid for the dinner

I think it's a little sad that everyone is jumping to conclusions. If she's been crushing on him then they know each other, he did agree to a date. If he would do something like that then maybe he had a good reason... From experience, the only thing to do when they don't get that your not interested is doing something mean. Or maybe someone isn't telling the whole story!

Or they're teenagers and she "liked" him for sheer looks. Either way it's freaking pathetic what he did (given he didn't get killed in the parking lot) - just telling her Noooooo could've done the trick.

Sometimes it doesn't do the trick! I know it doesn't. I'm not gonna buy into it and string this guy up because clearly there's a lot more to it.

Here's a thought, if he was not interested don't go out with her. It was completely uncalled for to do something like that to her. I think he knew she had crush and took crude advantage of her.

He could have at least paid for his dinner, that is if he was tryin to let her know he wasn't interested.

I'm quite willing to "buy into it" and "string this guy up" because big boys and girls would use their big boy and girl words to tell someone that this isn't working out. Big boys and girls do not A) lie to be able to get out of sight, and then B) ditch leaving the other person with the bill. "Clearly there's a whole lot more to the story." - Could you give an example? Perhaps the OP was boring? Still doesn't warrant being lied to (and excited due to a surprise) and then stuck with the bill. Maybe she was a bitch? Still doesn't warrant it. Perhaps she's a slob that can't get the food past her mouth and it all ends up on her face and shirt? Still no. I went out, once, with a sexist pig who didn't show his true colors until the dinner when the waitress accidentally got our drink order mixed up (it was really busy in the restaurant.) The comments that flew out of his mouth at her made ME turn bright red in embarrassment and rage. I got up, told him that he could eat with his ego, dropped money on the table for my drink, stuffed a twenty into the poor waitress' hand for having to deal with him, and left.

Don't cry, OP :( you shouldn't want a sorry little whimp who's too scared to tell his date that it's not working out anyways!

Better being left a restaurant on your first date than being left at the alter, hun. At least you got to see how much of a spineless ass he is this early on
