Today, my old boss stiffed me on a large sum of money he owes me. I tried to contact him and point out that he legally owes me the money, but he won't answer his texts or his phone, and the managers say he changes the subject whenever they bring it up. FML

Today, my boss called me, furious about how I "never answer my phone", especially when important clients are trying to reach me, and how unprofessional I am. I make very sure to never miss any calls, my boss just keeps giving out the wrong number to people. FML

Today, my ex-boss still owes me almost 900€. I just paid another 150€ to have a lawyer tell me that, yes, the law is clearly on my side but no, I will most likely not win in court because I don't have hard proof. I just paid money to be told I won't be getting the money I'm owed. FML

No option but to take legal action. He will be served papers and if he still feels like avoiding the situation then you'll win by default and either he pays up or faces charges. So just bite the bullet and get a lawyer. When you win your old boss should be responsible for the lawyers fees.

go to the nlrb (national labor board) if you're in the states or look up the equivalent for your country. They will handle your case for free and they will get it done quickly.

If this happened in the first place then it's probably a small run business and doesn't have an HR department. He could still call up labor services and explain his claim.
