I bet the OP is under contract to stay in North Carolina. The same thing has happened to most people involved in the Teaching Fellows program, which promises to fund teachers' educations in exchange for four years of indentured servitude to the state. Teaching Fellows lures students in by promising and REQUIRING a minimum four-year position in a school system, and is now reneging on its contracts. And because they can't fulfill their end of the bargain anymore, some graduates are even being asked to pay back some or all of the tuition for which Teaching Fellows claimed responsibility. This isn't easy without a job. OP, you're not alone on this. FOL.
MzMay: This is you: "Texas will hire you in a heart beat I dnt got a degree on education and I could still get hired for teaching" :) This is me: -Texas will hire you in a heartbeat. I don't have a degree in education and I could still get hired as a teacher. -Texas will hire you in a heartbeat! I didn't get a degree in education and I could still get hired as a teacher! -Texas will hire you in a heartbeat. I haven't got a degree in education and I could still get hired as a teacher. Just three examples of how you could have successfully written that sentence and not ended up with every Texan parent wondering what school employed you. (and every college student wondering what college graduated you.) :) You, madam, are a moron and everything that's WRONG with our education system. I really, really hope you were kidding. *fingers crossed*
^^ FTW ^^
Who was in charge of that contract? This is why i hate bureaucracy, it doesn't know how to handle real life.
The FML says nothing about a contract. Teachers don't usually get hired in the middle of the year. No one quits or retires mid-year. It's all deaths, sudden illnesses, and pregnancies. OP should give it time and try to find a job for fall, when there are actually openings. My state has a hiring freeze too and I graduate in May. It doesn't mean you can't get ANY jobs. If they HAVE to have teachers, they'll hire.
Ummmmm actually moving out of state can be expensive and complicated....
Grow up #60. The person you were replying to was far more helpful than you were. You don't know as much as you think you do about the education system in Texas or the problems that plague it. There are only about three people in the world who fully comprehend the intricacies of how education is funded in Texas. Being theatrical and accusing someone of being solely responsible for complicated public policy is really unproductive. By the way, your post could use a few improvements. You should brush up on the formal usage of parentheses. They aren't required for what you are trying to accomplish. A couple of your sentences are badly structured. Starting a sentence with a conjunction ('and') is iffy. It makes it difficult to follow your thinking. This all goes back to your use of parentheses.
That sucks OP. But yeah, its just the american way to start cutting down expenses on education as soon as possible. (Not trying to be anti-american or anything, its just that my mother and several of her friends had to leave the US to find a job as a teacher for basically this same reason. It wont be the last time that'll happen).
I bet some "correctional" facility is hiring though!! Sad We CUT education and then have too/WANT TOO increase Prison spending! While ALSO cutting Mental Health services! Vut a couwntwry LOL
Yay! Let's give our criminals money! Who cares if they'll be there for life, they need career training, too! Let's educate them, so when they get out at 50, they can get a job. Not the youth, though. Who needs a job at 21? Lets help criminals survive the real world, not kids just entering it.
Yeah actually there are teaching jobs available at the correctional facilities. LOL
If the unions were willing to work with the states these things wouldn't be so severe. Cuts need to be made sometimes. The unions refuse cuts so things like hiring freezes are the only things states can do. They can't just print money like the Fed. You should start harassing the local teachers union. Unions suck - especially civil servant unions
Dear #5, that has to be one of the best written yet dumb and most self-centered arguments I have seen lately. Were you born as a company directive or owner or something ?
You'd might think that unless it was your job that was being harassed unions are there to protect people's job's it's what they started out to do .
I actually changed job titles at the last hospital I worked for because I refused to be a part of the union. In some cases, unions are a good thing. In others, they can be absolutely detrimental. When some outside union comes in that knows nothing about how your company/hospital works and spreads lies to try and get people to vote them in, I have issues. Children's in San Diego had SEIU come in and blatantly twist the truth. They took advantage of language barriers. They were downright dispicable. I knew I would never be a person to walk away from a job because some union official was forcing me to. Also, SEIU was going to cost people in regular office jobs more in dues than nurses were paying for their in-house union. I think in-house unions are the only way to go. They actually know the individual issues and address them accordingly
you must live in Alabama. that's a problem here.
A lot of states are having that same problem right now. It's a side effect of NCLB and the bad economy. But I'm not going to get all political. Saying FYL will suffice. BTW #6 that was a good point and one of very few comments I have seen you make that didn't involve sex or obscenity in some way. I'm impressed and worried. ;)
thank god the school levy in Clark county passes every year
Welcome to the world of teaching in the US. There are a whole slew us that have just graduated or are going to graduate in a few months. What we've been told in AZ is to go towards the smaller towns where no one really wants to teach, because hey its a job. Also, try the absolute low SES districts, they get more funding for being title 1 and can then hire teachers with that money. It will soon turn around because they can't continue to have 33 students in a class and expects awesome test score like they were before.
Yeah, no offense, but do you know how many thousands could've posted basically the same FML these last few years? Heck, my mom's there right now, and I was there just a year ago.
Seriously. I have friends with good degrees in *many* fields who are in the same boat. You have to have patience, and you may not get to work in your desired field right away. Just keep a good resume and keep trying. You can't get frustrated if you don't have a career within 6 months of graduation, these days!
