I bet the OP is under contract to stay in North Carolina. The same thing has happened to most people involved in the Teaching Fellows program, which promises to fund teachers' educations in exchange for four years of indentured servitude to the state. Teaching Fellows lures students in by promising and REQUIRING a minimum four-year position in a school system, and is now reneging on its contracts. And because they can't fulfill their end of the bargain anymore, some graduates are even being asked to pay back some or all of the tuition for which Teaching Fellows claimed responsibility. This isn't easy without a job. OP, you're not alone on this. FOL.

The FML says nothing about a contract. Teachers don't usually get hired in the middle of the year. No one quits or retires mid-year. It's all deaths, sudden illnesses, and pregnancies. OP should give it time and try to find a job for fall, when there are actually openings. My state has a hiring freeze too and I graduate in May. It doesn't mean you can't get ANY jobs. If they HAVE to have teachers, they'll hire.

Grow up #60. The person you were replying to was far more helpful than you were. You don't know as much as you think you do about the education system in Texas or the problems that plague it. There are only about three people in the world who fully comprehend the intricacies of how education is funded in Texas. Being theatrical and accusing someone of being solely responsible for complicated public policy is really unproductive. By the way, your post could use a few improvements. You should brush up on the formal usage of parentheses. They aren't required for what you are trying to accomplish. A couple of your sentences are badly structured. Starting a sentence with a conjunction ('and') is iffy. It makes it difficult to follow your thinking. This all goes back to your use of parentheses.

Dear #5, that has to be one of the best written yet dumb and most self-centered arguments I have seen lately. Were you born as a company directive or owner or something ?

You'd might think that unless it was your job that was being harassed unions are there to protect people's job's it's what they started out to do .

I actually changed job titles at the last hospital I worked for because I refused to be a part of the union. In some cases, unions are a good thing. In others, they can be absolutely detrimental. When some outside union comes in that knows nothing about how your company/hospital works and spreads lies to try and get people to vote them in, I have issues. Children's in San Diego had SEIU come in and blatantly twist the truth. They took advantage of language barriers. They were downright dispicable. I knew I would never be a person to walk away from a job because some union official was forcing me to. Also, SEIU was going to cost people in regular office jobs more in dues than nurses were paying for their in-house union. I think in-house unions are the only way to go. They actually know the individual issues and address them accordingly

I see all my fellow NC residents are already talking about this. But unless you do HAVE to stay in NC I say head somewhere else. NC has some of the lowest teacher salaries in the country.

Yeah, no offense, but do you know how many thousands could've posted basically the same FML these last few years? Heck, my mom's there right now, and I was there just a year ago.

Seriously. I have friends with good degrees in *many* fields who are in the same boat. You have to have patience, and you may not get to work in your desired field right away. Just keep a good resume and keep trying. You can't get frustrated if you don't have a career within 6 months of graduation, these days!

I'm sure all the ones who had you in their class would emphatically agree. ;)
