That's why I dropped the Fellowship last year. It's a whole lot of money to have to pay back. But, at least I only have a fourth of it now. Good Luck, I know when I went on Discovery that Hyde county was looking for Teachers. So, you might want to try there. I know it's way out in the middle of nowhere, but it's a job and the kids there really need good teachers. Especially Fellows. =]
come to australia :)
Try doing the teach for America program. It guarentees you a job but in tougher schools but it looks really good on your resume and could help you find a better job in thr future. Plus you're helping educate kids who are in desperate need of good teachers.
I feel your pain. got into computers, two years in the economy tanks and people start considering "on site techs" to be unnecessary.

That sucks OP. But yeah, its just the american way to start cutting down expenses on education as soon as possible. (Not trying to be anti-american or anything, its just that my mother and several of her friends had to leave the US to find a job as a teacher for basically this same reason. It wont be the last time that'll happen).
If the unions were willing to work with the states these things wouldn't be so severe. Cuts need to be made sometimes. The unions refuse cuts so things like hiring freezes are the only things states can do. They can't just print money like the Fed. You should start harassing the local teachers union. Unions suck - especially civil servant unions
