"Oh my god boo hoo I had to count change" I've had someone pay over $35 in pure change. If you're a cashier, you HAVE to do it, get over it. If you don't like it, get another job. If your work place accept cash in small amount of change like, they should have a weight system, to check the weight for the right amount. And you SHOULD NOT have roll it yourself. If you're rolling yourself, that is crap. Not an FML my friend.
You cant pay for an item over 50 cents in pennies
mmmmallory and cyberpimp, et al. You are ALLOWED to pay for anything with any number of pennies. The law is that the seller has the right to refuse to accept a certain amount of pennies as payment, yet the debt is still valid.
@mmmmallory 10/09/2009 at 9:58am: "it's illegal to pay for something with more than 25 pennies." That may be true in your country, but in the US (were the OP is from) legal tender is valid for ALL debts, and since a penny IS legal US tender, then any US debt can be paid in pennies regardless of the size of the debt.
expen_dable, apparently YOU'RE too retarded to even read. Notice I said "IF" you work in a bank. Not only did I say "if", but I capitalized it because I knew there'd be some retard who couldn't understand an "if, then" statement. Congrats, YOU'RE that retard. My berating was irrelevant IF she doesn't, that's the beauty of an "if, then" statement. Seriously man, get an education. I hate stupid people.
Your statement implies that the OP works in a bank. Since you don't know that information, saying IF you work in a bank, then blah blah blah is irrelevant. Working in a bank, then yes its his job to count money. But if he doesn't, then it's not... and your statement is pointless. I hate people who think they know everything, and they're always right.
#56: It's usually pretty futile to try explaining things to a moron, but I'm going to give it my best shot: It's not the WHOLE post that depends on the "IF". Only the first two sentences. Insert a paragraph break after "denomination", imagine that they're two different posts... whatever it takes for you to be able to visualize this. The rest of the post applies regardless of the initial condition. Yes, it could have been structured a little better or something, but really it's more or less just pathetic that you didn't understand it.
An "asshole customer?" Do you sell prosthetic anuses (ani?)? I guess it's a booming industry because there's been a big push for anal sex. People are wearing their original ones out. Do you make one that has a Donkey-punch-activated sphincter? (I need to run to the Patent Office with that one!)
The original version said "asshole customer" instead of "buttmunch." They edited it and that makes my comment look irrelevant.
What exactly made him an asshole? Was he an asshole because he had pennies he wanted to get rid of? THE BASTARD!
The decision of whether to accept pennies lies with the owner or manager of the store. Stores are allowed to refuse certain methods of payment, provided this is made known before the transaction takes place (e.g. a large sign saying "No bills larger than 20"). If the customer has already incurred a debt, I don't think you're allowed to reject a payment unless the method of payment was specified in advance.
Exactly! +1
How dare someone pay for a purchase with real legal tender! Who the heck are you to judge on the method of payment? Does your store have a policy that says pennies aren't accepted? If not, then you're simply complaining about a minor inconvenience and the fact that you're a clumsy oaf.
it's legal tender and you should have not been a butterfingers. no sympathy, YDI
700 pennies? FYL

You do know that in some areas o the work it's illegal to pay with excessive amounts of change... right? I know I'm allowed to smile and tell customers that I'm not legally allowed to take more than 26 pennies in a single transaction. There's a limit on everything else too but I happened to memorize the penny limit because the damn things suck.
Pennies are still legal tender. Legally a store is obligated to accept any type of bill/coin as long as it is legal tender.
