Thievery

Today, I checked my bank account that I've been saving money in since I was a kid for college. I have $100 left out of the $10,000 I had last month. Apparently my parents thought buying a pool and an HDTV for themselves was more important than my college education. FML

Sue. Sure, they're your parents, but God, being inconsiderate like that. It's your future.

That really ought to be illegal. You get screwed if your parents don't meet their financial aid obligations for your education, so there should be some legal requirement for your parents to meet those obligations.

If you're under 18, everything in your bank account belongs to your parents unfortunately. So no, you don't deserve it because your parents always have access to your bank account if you're not of legal age yet.

Id say that you didnt make it into college, or that you chose not to, and now you have a chip on your shoulder coz you cant just pocket the money.

Aw!! I wanna know what they said when you confronted them!!

Wow, your parents are jerks if it's your money. That's actually considered stealing if you didn't give your consent. At least where I live, it is. But maybe you don't live where I do, because where I live, you can't buy both a pool and an HDTV for $9,900. Hell, you can barely buy a normal television for that much! And yes, you people are idiots. Minors can have their own bank accounts, with their own money, in their own names. Checking AND saving. I am fifteen and I do. The checking ones you need a parent's consent for, yes, but I believe the OP was talking about a savings account.

wow your parents are assholes if they didnt intend to pay you back!!!!

my parents are doing that to me right now. its the money im getting from when dad died =/ i agree, FYL

I'm really sorry to hear what your parents did to you. That's completely rude and disrespectful. I can see if you were making 500,000.00 a year but that's your college education fund. I'm not sure of the laws governing where you live but I would definitely speak to an attorney because the consultation is free until you have to get a retainer...see what you can do and if they will take a case pro bono. If they do this to you now just imagine what they will do in the future. If you cannot trust your parents, who can you trust? You should try to get the money back whether you speak to them about it or get the money back through litigation. If all else fails just sell all their stuff and leave them homeless when they are old and frail since you will most likely have control over their possessions.

I would totally punch them in the faces for you and I have never hit anyone in my life because I don't believe in violence.
