This might be illegal simply on grounds that if it's a "college savings account" it may only be withdrawable for financing higher education. Talk to a bank officer.
I'm doubting this fml... Like others have said, pool and HDTV will cost more than $10k. Anyways, if all you had for college was $10k, you probably had no where near enough anyways (unless you're going to be living at home while going to school). Even then, you'd probably go through $10k your first year.
No 38 your a freakin idiot, take their credit card and get a cash advance
Unfortunately, $10,000 would not be nearly enough for college anyways. It would help, but you would still need a lot more, even if you were living at home.
lol #57 id just ask for the money back if you wer saving up and what if they stole his credit card. FYL good luck
I agree with the others here: 1. You probably knew your parents would be like this. Unless you were completely trusting of your parents, there was (NO REASON) for you to give them access to it. 2. I would immediately file a lawsuit against them. Sorry, but I love my parents and all, but if they were really messed up as your parents seem to be, I would call my lawyer without blinking an eye.
Ouch. & to those saying YDI for allowing their parents access to the account...if they've been saving since they were a kid, it's probably an account their parents open up for them when they were younger and were looking after it until they were old enough/going to college. My grandparents set me one up, which both they and my parents paid money into and I won't be able to access the money until I need it. Sucks you have parents who were too selfish to consider your own feelings. I hope there is something you can do about it though x

Sue. Sure, they're your parents, but God, being inconsiderate like that. It's your future.
That really ought to be illegal. You get screwed if your parents don't meet their financial aid obligations for your education, so there should be some legal requirement for your parents to meet those obligations.
