Tipped

By Nick - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, while I was working as a waitress, I had to wait on a table of 13 people. I was struggling through it and when they finally left I went by the table to pick up my tip. Instead of a money I got a napkin saying, "Here's your tip, don't be a waitress." FML

Your restaurant doesn't add gratuity for parties of 8 or more? Most do, and this is why.

If you have ever worked in the restaurant industry, you'd realize this is a FML. No one deserves to get stiffed on a tip, especially for a party of 13. But like #3, why wasn't there gratuity added in?

unlucky thirteen. still, if karma really exists, hopefully they'll all wake up with an interesting venereal disease and some roadkill in their bed.

You mentioned that you were struggling -- did you ask for help? While I don't agree with not leaving a tip, if they received absolutely horrible service, I can see them not showing their gratitude. As a server who can easily handle parties of 30, maybe serving isn't your gig if you cannot handle a party of 13.

it could be that at the restaurant where the OP works they don't normally have parties of about 30. I know at the Red Lobster I work at our manager doesn't like us to have more than 3 tables at once, unless it happens to be convenient for them so that there isn't a wait. Also some restaurants, like the one I work at, require that a party with more than 8 people have more than one server on it. Perhaps there weren't enough servers on at the time and the OP had to take it by themselves, it's happened at my job. Although I've worked there since before that rule was in place so I'm able to handle parties of 20 and more, but some people just can't handle that kind of thing because they've never had to do it before.

Damn it, I hate people. If they ever come back... you know what to do, fellow food services employee. >:)

im a waiter, and i can relate. still, i wouldnt take the chance of not adding gratuity to a table. especially 13 people. sorry bout that though.

ive worked in the restaurant business long enough to know that 13 people isnt a big group and that people dont just stiff you like that for no reason. if you cant handle the stress that goes along with waitressing then find a new job. clearly your not good at it and you deserve this one!

We can tell you worked in the resturant business a bit too long, your English has suffered quite a bit. Clearly, you're not good at anything, even with working in the resturant business for so long. Ever take into consideration that this person might be a brand new waitress? Probably not, since you're such a close-minded bitch.

you are one of the less intelligent people here, where are you seeing this lack of good english? the only problem here is that your an idiot and you should probably do everyone a favor and not come back, your just making yourself look stupid.

Oh, just the usual internet-style bad English. Both you and jensenr88 seem not to know what the shift key is, what an apostrophe is, or the difference between "your" and "you're". Me grammer good ^_^

wow, 13 people isn't a big group? what is? 14 and on? I wasn't aware that the average size of a family going out to dinner is 13. Aside from rare occasions, one would not normally see a group of 4 or more.

Isn't it also the 13th? (If this was posted from yesterday/tonight.) I'm sorry OP. Maybe it isn't the job for you? But you don't deserve nothing.

"Maybe it isn't the job for you? But you don't deserve nothing." Would that not mean she actually deserves something!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes that would. What kind of question is that? Or remark, anyway.

You're a waitress and your name is Nick? Okay then...

Never know. I knew someone who said he wanted to be a waitress. He had no idea the title was gender specific. People are scary like that.

Sorry, that sucks. About auto-adding the tip... I basically grew up in my family's restaurant, so I know what I'm talking about here. In some states it isn't technically legal to auto-add a tip for a large party. Though it's not strictly enforced, some restaurant owners don't want to run the risk of getting fined, sued, etc. So that may be why the OP didn't get an automatic 8%. At least it wasn't a Gospel tract that looks like a $100 bill-- I've gotten those before. Here's a tip for you- Jesus treated "public servants" well, you douche.

And my Dad keeps suggesting a waitress job for the tips....I'm not putting up with bullshit with a large party, only to get a piece of garbage as a 'tip'. If that tip worked on every waitress, who would serve people at diners? Idiotic bastards...
