Today, a customer at the store I work at asked me what kind of cake I would suggest for her husband's 50th birthday. I laughed and showed her the Grim Reaper cake. She burst into tears and explained that he has cancer. FML

An Over The Hill cake would have been fine, but your store had to one up that with a Grim Reaper? Man, that sucks! At least you were doing your job well!

Better give her a free cake, bitch.

That probably wasn't the smartest thing to do OP..

everyone calling op inconsiderate, an asshole, a prick, or just saying he needs to get fired needs to shut the **** up, there is absolutely no way op could've known that her husband has cancer, and obviously if there is a grim reaper cake readily available it means that its a cake people buy fairly regularly. its pretty obv that op didn't mean it as "haha your husbands gonna die" the lady asked him what cake would be good for someone turning 50 and he/she pointed out a cake that was intended to be a joke in good fun that unfortunately turned out to be a bad choice saying he should get fired or die or whatever simply because he assisted someone who asked for a cake giving only the recipients age and no other information annoys me, you people need to stop being so butt hurt he didn't have any ill will towards the lady, and he felt bad about it it was an awkward situation that yes is unfortunate for the woman and her husband(and anyone else involved), but we all get into them from time to time, please stop acting like you've never unknowingly talked about a situation that may have been uncomfortable for someone else op is not an awful human being because he unknowingly reminded someone of something bad thats going on in their lives, the real awful human beings are the ones on this site who see that op made a mistake that he never meant to hurt the woman and that he felt bad about it afterwards, and still wish for bad things to happen to him please look at things from everyone's point of view before making yourselves look like a bunch of assholes on the internet

Omg that's terrible. I feel really bad for the poor lady.

And yes I am blaming op because when you work in a business you're supposed to be at least mature. It doesn't matter if YOU think it's funny the customer might not, people may be sensitive about these things as shown in the situation above what op should have done was ask what type of cake she had in mind. Unless she asked them for a joke cake it's best not to assume these things. TLDR If you work in a role in which you directly engage with the customer, act like a professional unless prompted to do so.

Oh my god why would u do that ? Ur a horrible person
