Today, a gothic 16-year-old with a bread knife tried to mug me. After warning her to back off multiple times, I punched her in the face. She ran off crying and reported me to the police. They don't believe my side of the story. FML

If in public and her fingerprints were on the knife and yours were not they have no option but to and you have a significant defence. In the U.K. if caught carrying a fixed blade knife in public then they are committing an offence automatically.

Except defending yourself in the UK is worse. I’ll never understand the attitude that it is somehow morally superior to be a victim of a crime than to stop an attacker from hurting you. Here in the US, if you claim self defense, the state has to prove it wasn’t.

Maybe because they thought you could've disarmed a high school girl or done something else that didn't involve punching a minor. Don't know about the UK, but reasonable force is part of the law here

UK? should have cctv if not **** it. Go to court and make your pay your loss of wages. The story will fall apart once she has to justify why you were in contact as i'm sure you don't have a reputation of punching random people in the street
