Today, a kid was ranting that "people these days are so rude" and that "things were much better in the '50s." Annoyed, I asked the delusional twat what was so great about the racial segregation, rampant sexism, homophobia, and all the rest back then. He responded by punching me. FML

He was just an immature child who couldn't admit he was wrong. All the same, argument won.

It was much much worst back then, than it is now. The stuff today is 100x better in comparison.

I really hate people who fetishize the past to the point of refusing to admit the many, many injustices that were rampant at the time. Hell, a lot of the problems still exist today, but on a much smaller scale; we have moved forward as human beings, not backwards. Racism still exists, but in the 50s we still had SEGREGATED SCHOOLS for god's sake. Life sucked in a whole lot of ways for people who weren't white, heterosexual men, to a degree that is hard for people of my generation to even comprehend; things are still harder for people outside of that group, of course, but society has progressed a long way. And I get it to some extent; I love the aesthetic of the 20s. Flappers, speakeasies, the birth of the American gangster-- I find all of that very appealing. But that is absolutely not an excuse to run around ignorantly going on about how GREAT things were in the 20s, how things were sooo much better during the 20s, while completely ignoring all of the terrible aspects of that decade in history. You can enjoy the idea of a past decade without completely ignoring the social injustice that took place at the time.

You're looking at one thing.

Like society is not still like that now. You were so right! ( sarcasm )

I seriously wish I lived in the 50s That kid knew what he was talking about

Hell kids in the 50s dressed better

If you have to defend yourself as not a typical COD player, then you're a typical COD player.

yep, it's awesome being a straight white male

YDI. The kid is allowed to have his own opinion.

He does have the right to his own opinion, but he has no right to punch someone in the face when it's called into question. OP has the right to his own opinion as well, why does he deserve that treatment for expressing it?

#182 Thank you, just what I came here to say...

It was better back then, gays didnt walk around making out, they hid in their closets.

'Guy tells facts about why the 50s weren't as good as the 'kid' thought they were', the result? The little punk punches him in the face, what a twat.

"I'm angry that the 50's weren't as colorful as they seemed, so I'm going to punch you."
