Today, after 3 long hours of mowing the lawn with a rusty lawn mower, my dad finally decided to tell me that he didn't get any money out to pay me with. The reason? He didn't think girls could mow a lawn and was expecting me to give up. FML

This isn't your average chore, I do those for free. No allowance, just a hourly rate for the hardcore jobs.

how disgustingly sexist of him

Ow wow, that's something. Charge him extra and add interest until he coughs it up.

You ask to be paid when doing something for your parents ??? Do they ask you to pay for your food and lodging ?

Mmph, indeed. Apparently, though, that's the norm these days. We must be of the few who never got an allowance, eh 14?

I don't get an allowance I get an hourly rate for the hardcore jobs that you might pay someone to do anyway e.g. Mow the lawn, chop wood etc.... And I have to do all the normal jobs anyway e.g. Dish washer, washing machine etc.

What? Ahahaha, I've never heard of "mowing the lawn" being a hardcore job, especially with a rider, unless you actually did it as a job (like in other peoples' yards). Chopping wood, maybe... I know I can't do it lol (awful, terrible aim). But, my mother did that as a child and never got paid either. She also took care of everyone (second eldest). I don't know what other hardcore things you do, though. Now, since you do seem to do a lot, it seems fair to me that you get a reward in some way. I help out a lot too, and sometimes get a treat; my "pay" is that I get a "free" soda or Subway (as in, my mother pays for it lol). Hourly rate, though? Now there's something I've never heard before.... hm.. Better than an allowance, though, I would say. You HAVE to work for hourly rates. It also seems unfair to me that your father would make that assumption, since you do a lot indeed.

right the hardcore jobs...well if thats true then why would he have thought that you wouldn't be able to mow the lawn??

I'm amazed your dad expects you to chop wood but doesn't think you can mow the lawn!

my dad, aunt, and uncle all pay me to mow their lawns. wats so bad about that

"Hardcore jobs"??!! SITTING ON YOUR ASS for three hours doesn't seem very 'hardcore' to me. If it was a push-mower, I would give you a little more credit. Looks like you have a lot more growing up/learning to do.

I don't get money off my parents not even allowance but I don't complain because they buy me all my clothes food and tech

that's nice but you don't know what the money they give her is for. I get paid to do chores and with the money I get from that, I am expected to buy clothes, tech, and sometimes food, plus if I ever want to go out or get something for some one, I have to use the money for that as well. your parents may do all that for you, but might expect her to use the money she earns from them for all that.

well as children generally have to do chores for their parents for free anyway....

This isn't your average chore, I do those for free. No allowance, just a hourly rate for the hardcore jobs.

I just cannot comprehend how you truly believe that sitting on a lawnmower for three hours is 'hardcore'! I hope you grow up soon!

Humph. My MOM mows the lawn often because my BROTHER gives up. And we have a riding lawn mower.

So do we :( should've made it more clear

My family owns a riding lawn mower, but I'm too short to drive it. So I always had to mow the lawn by hand. As the oldest of three girls, I'm used to doing the otherwise typical "boy" chores and can't believe how ignorant your father is. You'd hope a parent would give you the benefit of the doubt.

I not only mow our LARGE lawn at our summer home, I'm well versed in just about every power tool in a pro's toolbox. I'm a 25 year old woman, youngest of 7 kids, and I've been using power tools since I was 13, helping dad with building too.

What a sexist pig! Tell your mom about that and make that jerk sleep on the couch for a while!

Um, you should mow the lawn for your parents for free, bitch. Kids shouldn't get paid for chores.

NewLight8421 0

wouldn't that be like saying you should work for your boss for for free and adults shouldn't get payed for work?

ChrisWasHere 0

Number 29: No, it wouldn't be the same because you would expect to be paid from your job. But, it's different from your parents. Kids should do chores for free after all the parents give us.

not really. you're parent(s) provide you with food, shelter, etc...plus other things you don't actually need.

dexhead 0

Only you don't live in your boss's house or eat his food. My parents pay for my food and lodging, I think I can bear to do some work around the house.

LegndNikko 0

"Hey, mom, could I get this?" "Only if you pay for it." And if they're too young for a job...?

I get an allowance, because my parents want me to learn the value of money..and I have to pay for my own clothes/candy/when I go out to eat with my friends, ect. so there are points for giving allowance.

inevality 12

Well, most parents pay kids to do chores because it saves the parents time. They don't have to do as much work, so they have more free time. And if a kid is paid for doing a chore, they might want to do it more often.

21, my parents pay me to teach me the value of money and so does my aunt and uncle so then I buy my own personal items, besides some clothes

Unless the parents say they're gonna pay you for it... That's messed up saying they'll pay you and then not paying you. Especially if it something you don't normally do.

sound like my dad growing up. He even teased me about having a "girl-brain"...

That TOTALLY sucks. Not only is your father sexist and horribly rude, but that's very cruel of him (assuming he is capable of mowing HIS lawn by himself and is not crippled) to make his child, regardless of gender, do it. Good on you for not only getting it done, but showing him that a WOMAN (that's right, you're NOT a girl) can do something and do it well. FYL though. But FYD (d=dad) more. Give him the finger for me and spit in his dinner.

Hi we are going to play a game called "Chill the **** out" and you are our first contestant.

crack_aint_whack 0

Hahaha can I be a judge on that game?

Sounds to me like SOMEBODY'S mommy and daddy hands him/her everything he/she wants, and thinks he/she is allowed to have an opinion like that. That's right, everyone's wrong but you, and you shouldn't have to work for anything ever. You know, my aunt was like that with my cousin. Now he's paying child support to a couple girls and has outstanding warrants.

Why does the dad have to be the only one mowing the lawn? Do you also believe he is a slave for his children? Sick freak.

Woah you are rude. I get nothing unless I pay for it. Phone paid for with my money made by doing chores or other work. My clothes paid for exactly the same way. My dad has taught me the value of money. Single parent family, and yes my dad gets paid enough to support more than one family if he really wanted/needed to.

Well, good for you and your father then. I hope you weren't talking to me... (since I made the comment about having everything handed to you) Well, just in case, I was talking to the poster who told you to flip your dad off. Also, neat, someone commenting on their own FML. So rare... should happen more often to clear up crap, like for example everything you said you do for your money.

LOL i'm a 17 year old girl and I've only mowed the lawn like twice in my life.

I'm 21, I've never done it and will never in the future. Nobody cares...

Uh.. how is she a spoiled little bitch because she's never mowed a lawn ? I've never mowed a lawn either, because I live in New York.

sireen 0

Merri- wow did your parents ever teach you to respect them and other adults? yes what he did was rude. but WOW that's disrespectful.
