Today, after 3 long hours of mowing the lawn with a rusty lawn mower, my dad finally decided to tell me that he didn't get any money out to pay me with. The reason? He didn't think girls could mow a lawn and was expecting me to give up. FML

aatomkins tells us more.

This isn't your average chore, I do those for free. No allowance, just a hourly rate for the hardcore jobs.

how disgustingly sexist of him

Ow wow, that's something. Charge him extra and add interest until he coughs it up.

good for you for finishing. mowing a lawn is a privelage and really doesn't need a money reimbersment. unless you've got some acres. then it's a pain in the ass

3 acres, took 3 hours with the stupid thing overheating twice

It was a riding mower! All you had to do was SIT! Seriously, if you think this is somehow an accomplishment, you obviously don't know much about hard work. While it was wrong of your dad to make a sexist comment, it's wrong of you to expect payment from him while living in HIS house worry-free!

For the people saying, "YDI for expecting your dad to pay", - don't parents sometimes offer their kids something special to encourage them to do a chore? Most probably hoping that they would work harder and do the job better. Christ. Also, the OP has stated herself that the reason why this is a FML is NOT because she didn't get payed, but because her dad's a sexist douche. I feel sorry for you OP.

Money? Pay? It's your parents house. You live there rent and bill free. There ya go, your pay in $1000 A MONTH.

Wow, what a douche. I'm a girl and mow the lawn every freakin' week.

I am a seventeen old girl, living in upstate NY. My brother and I mow our 24-acre lawn every weekend, together taking about three hours. We both use push-mowers. We are not paid, though we both have full-time jobs over the weekdays. If this girls father told her to mow the lawn, and she was whining about having to do that, I would point and laugh. However, it looks like her father promised her payment, then was convinced that HIS OWN DAUGHTER, being female, would not be able to do this simple task. If anyone underestimated me like that, especially someone that close to me, on the basis that I was born a girl, I would be very hurt. And very, very, angry. I don't look like some russian muscled chick. I lift weights, so all my strength is just from four years of hard work and dedication at lifting. I constantly show up guys in the weightroom. I outlift football players. But yes, I know I am not the standard. Girls are, on average, weaker than men. We do not gain muscle as quickly, or as easily. But I find adrenaline and mental attitude are often much more important than simple muscle mass- I think girls can do more than they think they can. Because, too often, they quit. They know that "they're too weak," "boys can do it so much better." Prejudiced adults give them an excuse to quit. I'm rambling. Forgive me. Congratulations on working on a difficult job for so long, especially with your father's disbelieving attitude. I'm sure he was impressed. Continue to surprise the world :)

@74: again, despite posts to the contrary, that's what this site is *about*. Keep any and all rants that are articulate and pertaining-to-the-post coming:-) Completely agree on dynamics of standards regarding perceived gender capabilities, and will power being more important to your outcome than any potential inherent benefits of an easier starting point, when it comes to reaching a defined goal. The harder earned, the more defined and deserved. OP- heed this one's advice: keep surprising the world~

Dude WTF?! And I'm sure he doesn't expect girls to be able to fight either, huh? Well me and about oh 25 friends do pro fighting (all girls btw), so tell him to piss off and get a brain. That's just stupid, but at least you proved him wrong... Kinda like when my brother told me girls can't fight, he said that like all the time, least till I beat the shit out of him. xD

Why the hell should he pay you? It sucks that he's a huge misogynist, but that's completely unrelated! Do you pay rent? No? Then you should be pulling your weight in other ways. Even if you're underage, it's still everyone's responsibility to keep a household going. Your parents let you live there and presumably feed you. They don't owe you a wage on top of it for pitching in now and then!

I'm a girl and I do all those jobs, ex. mow the lawn, shovel the driveway, rake the leaves, bring in wood. I get paid but my parents say that if I get paid I have to buy everything for myself other then clothes and food. OP. That was very sexist of your father !
