often wen u get in a fight like that where accusations are flying around, people as a sort of defense mechanism just assume that your accusations are wishes, so they negate the alleged negligence without thinking (eg wen parents would shout "i wish you'd clean your room!" and you'd automatically go "i DO clean my room!"), so that might be why he just repeated you here. Next time in a heated argument don't say that you wish for something (for him to pretend) unless you really do want it; don't put the wrong idea in his head. Hope he realised later and apologised =]
