Today, after being turned away by nearly all the restaurants in the area, I tried applying at Burger King. They too turned me away. I have a Culinary School Degree. FML

It has nothing to do with you or your degree, it's the economy. I've seen so many FML's that say "I have ___ degree and got turned down by ___ FML" It sucks, and FYL, but...we're all going through it.

It takes a lot to make an Angry Chicken. You have no idea, sir or madam.

What the **** is wrong with you people who think going to school for your career is a waste of ******* time, money and resources? I'm going to assume over HALF of you idiots are going to ride on your high school diploma for the rest of your miserable lives, going to kiss your boss' ass in order to get anywhere, or have absolutely no ability to understand how important going to Culinary School to a certain individual may be. Or any other school for that matter that helps better a person with their passion.

just because someone has a diploma does not mean you have people skills or leadership skills or even commen sense.

Try looking into institutionalized cooking (hospital, schools, etc.) like someone posted earlier. Your degree doesn't apply to fast food where it is either deep fried or grilled. The fact that you can make a rue is moot. Working in a classy restaurant kitchen... well there aren't a whole lot of jobs available. Ruby Tuesdays isn't looking for chefs, they are looking for people who can cook the same thing over and over again quickly for little money. #46 - Depending on the field, going to school full time can be a waste of resources (time and money). I make just slightly over 100k a year off of my HS diploma and 4 college courses. Then again, I have 10 years experience in related fields. I believe that many people are stating that if you expect to get a great paying job with only a college degree, but little experience (which is a fallacy commonly believed in society today) then you wasted your money. A degree just means you didn't fail, not that you are the best candidate for a job.

$50 says his resume is what's getting him rejected.

you don't need a resume to apply to Burger King. a resume and an application are two separate things.

I'm not going to bother reading all the other posts. You weren't hired because of the degree on your resume. You are overly qualified. That degree shows them that you will bail on them as soon as you can get a better job. If you want a lower level job or a job in a different field, no mater how painful, you need to take that degree off of your resume. I'm sorry, but that's the curse of this economy.

Seriously people, who gives a flying **** if this guy wants to be a chef?! You think everyone wants to be a medical coder or IT guy? I'd like to find the one job that doesn't invoke an onslaught of "u pussy get a RL jarb!" comments, but I suspect that job has slowly gone the way of the buffalo (or dodo).

"I'd like to find the one job that doesn't invoke an onslaught of "u pussy get a RL jarb!" comments, but I suspect that job has slowly gone the way of the buffalo (or dodo)." The guy that makes C4. Gotta be the only job that fits your description :)

background check FAIL. i know ivy league grads who were busted for dui, pot, felony cocaine poss. or have bad CREDIT , all of them are having a hard time getting a job. and they are very well connected with quantitative degrees. good thing they have trust funds.

those angry onions at bk are really hard to cook. they cuss you out the second you try to peel them. but seriously, sorry to hear that man. that sucks. try another city. try little rock- were always looking for better cooks and new restaurants. worse comes to worse apply at a school. cafeteria good- both grade school and college- sucks, so maybe you can put your skill to use there?

I sort of agree with #51, you are overly qualified, but I think specifically that it's the sanitary standards you were taught, why they don't want you there. you have the knowledge to get those guys in trouble for not adhering to those rules put in place to avoid health risks, let's face it, most fast food joints aren't anywhere strict with those policies and you are a direct threat to that.

I couldn't agree with you more. They are afraid of his degree. Either he will leave them or not agree with how they handle things and it will cause problems.

That's bullshit. Do you know how many health inspections places like that go through? If anything, McDonald's or Burger King would have better health standards than many small restaurants, because they're so widely known and get more attention.

Burger King want worker slaves. You care too much about the quality of food to work there
