Today, after calling my boyfriend and telling him that my dog had just died, he hesitated and stuttered, "She was old, sick, and suffering. Babe, it was her time to go." He then informed me he had to go to his friend's house and hung up. My dog was two years-old, in great health, and was hit by a car. FML

Today, I took my 17 year-old dog, who had been my best friend my entire life right from when I was born, to be euthanised. I had booked in advance. The vet ambled in all spritely and cheerfully asked, "Just here for a checkup, aye?" FML

Today, I was playing with my dog, teasing her, to cheer myself up after being dumped by my girlfriend. My dog bit me hard and I had to go to hospital. The dog has to be put down. FML

Today, I asked if my friend wanted to come meet my dog and give him a treat. We were walking to my back yard, her holding 3 hot dogs, when she said, "I think your dog is dead!" I said, "No, he's just old and sleeps all the time and won't wake up until you pet him because he's deaf." He was dead. FML

Today, my girlfriend of a couple of months texted me that she was very sad because her puppy had just passed away. Feeling sorry for her, I bought her another puppy of the same breed. I wrapped it in a blanket and placed it on the passenger seat and went to pick her up from school. She sat on it. FML

Today, I had to put my 12 year-old dog down because he had dementia. I was told I got to lay on the floor with him, and say when I was ready. The vet brought my dog out on a stretcher, had the vet tech put him in a choke-hold, and administered the drugs before I could speak. Now, I have PTSD and she has to undergo sensitivity training. FML

Today, I was at a friend's birthday party when I got a call from my mom telling me to come home because my dog died. When I told my friend that I had to leave because of the loss, she replied with, "Okay, but you brought my gift inside, right?" FML

I completely agree with RDR435. I'm sick of seeing people who seem to care more about pets than they do about humans. Futhermore as someone who has lost both family, friends and pets I find it extremely insulting that you would dare compare the loss of a loved one to the death of a family pet.

Is this really a complaint? At least your boyfriend tried to make you feel better. Some people don't know what to say when someone brings up death to them...and from the sounds of it, he's one of those people. It's like those people who laugh when something terrible happens because you don't know what else to do (my mom & I are both a part of that category). If he does fall under this group, he actually did a pretty good job of at least saying SOMETHING!!

My dog was like another family member to me and I was heartbroken when she died at 8 years old...my boyfriend acted like it was no big deal at all and proceeded to talk about something else, even though I was really upset that day. I'm sorry, OP :(

Most people treat their dogs as a member of the family, and grieve as much, if not more than when a person dies. Dump your heartless sob boyfriend. Even if he didn't like your dog, he should have been there when you were suffering from your loss.
